Dorothy Hamon (now Nash) started to fence in Glasgow in 1949. When she came to Guernsey in 1956 there were no fencing classes available. During the winter of 1957/1958 a further education class began, she went along and assisted with coaching and then for many years ran the class. Dorothy was one of the founder members and the first Chairman of the Sarnia Sword Club when it was formed in 1969, She was also the first fencer in Guernsey to be awarded bronze silver and gold achievement awards in foil. She is the oldest member of the Sarnia Sword Club and recently competed in the 4th Fencing Tournament of Commonwealth Veterans, In Wrexham.
Over the years apart from from fencing in guernsey Dorothy has fenced in France, Holland, Jersey and the UK, Winning numerous bronze silver and gold medals in foil. Currently Dorothy assists with coaching as well as competing In the Sarnia Sword Club
