Finals Night Report

The Guernsey Bar Billiards Association’s finals night at the Jamaica Inn was the setting for another tour de force by the islands top player, Trevor Gallienne, as he claimed his fourth title in five years and his eleventh in total. He also claimed the pair’s trophy with his Baulkliners partner Barry Osborne.

Gallienne’s opponent in the individual final was Karl Ogier of Giants who won the toss and took the fist break. His opening effort of 2,000 was never to be enough, however, as Gallienne replied with a break of 6,930 and led by 4,510 at the half way stage and then played the table out with a score of 12,290 to ease to a comfortable victory.

In the semi-final Gallienne had beaten Ian Champion of Breakaways by 14,710 to 4,930, while Ogier had defeated Terry Kenny of Rohais by 10,040,to 3,450.

The pairs final proved to be a one way affair, as Gallienne and Osborne saw off Bob Chapple and Barry Warr of Rohais in straight games.

Gallienne knocked in a total clearance of 14,910 in the first game and followed that with a break of 11,570 in the second as the Baulkliners pair took total command of the match.

Gallienne will now play Jersey’s Nick Barnett for the Channel Islands’ Tittle, and will also captain the Guernsey team for the Inter Insular at St Martins Hotel on Saturday 28 April. The matches will begin at 8.00pm and any support would be welcome.

The remaining members of the team are Kenny, Chapple, Paul Dyer, Darren Ogier and Matt Ogier, with Barry Osborne as reserve.
