L81A2

The L81A2 is a single shot bolt action target rifle, chambered for the 7.62 NATO cartridge. It has a 26 inch, heavy barrel and is claimed to be accurate up to a range of 1000 metres.

The original L81A2 was introduced in the early 1980s as a replacement for the .303 Lee Enfield No.4 rifle. Designed by Birmingham gunmakers Parker-Hale, the L81A2 was a popular rifle, extremely accurate in the hands of a marksman.

However, in 1994, cracks were reported to appear in the metal work. The potential safety risks to the firer meant that all the rifles were withdrawn for tests. Cadets then used the L98A1 GP rifle for subsequent cadet rifle meetings. Problems now solved the new weapon has been eagerly awaited.
