‘An Evening of Light Classics’

Guest Conductor : Ronald Corp

The Camerata are pleased to welcome back the principle conductor of the New London Orchestra, Ronald Corp, as their guest conductor.  The concert features a number of works that have been recorded by the New London Orchestra under Ronald’s direction, which have since become very popular with listeners of Classic FM.  The programme includes music by composers as varied as Elgar, Delius and our local resident composer, Robert Farnon.

Recently selected as BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists, the Galliard Ensemble has been firmly placed as one of Britain’s leading young chamber groups. Its energetic, highly entertaining and communicative performance style has wowed audiences both in Britain and abroad, in broadsheets and in magazines. Gramophone Magazine wrote “Pure pleasure ... This in short is wind quintet playing of great distinction ..... Strongly          recommended”. As well as an expanding discography, the Ensemble, formed at the Royal Academy of Music in 1993, perform regularly at Festivals including the BBC Proms, Bath International Festival and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.Recent performances abroad include the Porto ‘City of Culture’ Festival and the Mafra Festival for the British Council. They also gave the centrepiece recital in the City of London Music Society Poulenc Centenary Series, followed by a successful  Bridgewater Hall recital. As part of their commitment to bringing classical music to new audiences, they frequently give masterclasses, concerts and workshops at schools.

The National Trust invites you to attend a fund raising quiz. This thoroughly entertaining evening includes a Ploughman’s supper.  The first question will be at 7.30 so don’t be late!

G.A.T.E (Guernsey Academy of Theatrical Education) will be holding a workshop in the half term holiday based on the West End musical ‘Grease’.  Local children will be given the opportunity to learn songs, dances, and scenes from the show by original cast members Catherine Hoskins, Brian Webster and Amanda Sim.  The workshop will culminate with a small show on the Saturday morning, to which all friends and family are invited. The workshop runs from 9am - 1pm Monday to Friday and 9.30 - 11.30am on Saturday.
